Wiener Werkstätte

Wiener Werkstätte 1903–1932

Wiener Werkstätte 1903–1932: The Luxury of Beauty was a landmark exhibition at Neue Galerie New York, presenting the most comprehensive American survey of the revolutionary Viennese design collective. Showcasing more than 400 objects—including furniture, metalwork, textiles, and jewelry—the exhibition explored the group’s evolution from its founding by Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser to its later years of adaptation and reinvention. The accompanying catalogue, which I designed in collaboration with Pandiscio Green, was conceived as a visual and scholarly extension of this extraordinary exhibition, capturing the Wiener Werkstätte’s synthesis of art, craft, and modernity.

This was the second book I designed to receive the prestigious Henry Allen Moe Prize, an annual award from Fenimore Art Museum recognizing excellence in exhibition and collections-based publishing—an achievement reflecting my dedication to distilling complex artistic movements into compelling and refined design. Praised by The New York Review of Books for its depth of research and visual richness, the catalogue not only documented the stunning array of works on display but also contextualized the Wiener Werkstätte’s influence on design history, positioning it as the vital link between Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
